The project creates conditions for sustainability of the natural environment and protection of the fish populations on the territory of the fishing area, preservation of the attractiveness of the territory and raising awareness of the local population and the tourists in the area.
Zhrebchevo Dam is a wetland of international importance for wintering waterfowl, where every year more than 20,000 waterfowl of 33 species are concentrated. 77 species of birds have been identified in the dam and fishponds, mainly wintering in the area, of which 23 species are included in the Red Book of Bulgaria.
Ovcharitsa Dam is an important habitat for many species of migratory and waterfowl. For this reason, the dam has been declared a protected area within the ecological network Natura 2000. The protected area at the dam covers an area of 43,000 decares.
